JP Morgan Asset Management case study

UPDATED: Twelve in 2012: How political events are shaping markets

Published by : JP Morgan Asset Management

Since publishing our research note, "Twelve in 2012: What politics could mean for markets in the year ahead," back in November, we have had some significant political events, including some surprises:

  • The contours of the U.S. presidential election are becoming clearer, while

  • Europe remains a source of local and global volatility.

  • Emerging Asia has seen good news (Taiwan) and new risk (North Korean handover).

  • Political risk in a number of oil-producing countries is playing out largely as we expected; Brent crude was up nearly 5% just in January.
